Should You Get a Smart TV if You Have a PS4? Like, really?

Should You Get a Smart TV if You Have a PS4

As of July 2021, over 116 million PS4s have been sold, which also means that PS4s are common in homes worldwide.

You can play your PS4 on TV and enjoy the cool features that come with the console, such as YouTube and Netflix streaming; it can feel like all you’ll ever need. So, is a smart TV necessary if you have a PS4?

You should not need to have a smart TV if you have a PS4, as most features on the smart TV are already available on the console. Both gadgets allow access to streaming apps, social media apps, music, games, and web browsing.

Let’s take a closer look at smart TVs and PS4s and find some of the more subtle differences between them.

Why Is a Smart TV Not Necessary for PS4 Owners?

A smart TV is not necessary for PS4 owners because it boasts many cool features that a PS4 already offers. Unless you’re getting a second TV for another room (that has no PS4), there’s no glaring reason to invest in a smart TV.

Most people invest in a smart TV to be able to access internet-only features on their TV.

Smart TVs are meant to replace streaming devices like a Roku or Amazon Fire Stick.

They allow full access to streaming apps, social media, and even music all in one place.

If you have a streaming device, a smart TV won’t be beneficial to you.

The same can be said for a smart TV and a PS4.

A smart TV can offer you plenty of cool features, but none that your PS4 isn’t going to give you.

In some cases, a smart TV may have fewer options than a PS4.

Here are some examples of apps not available on Samsung Smart TVs.

Unlike Smart TVs, all major streaming services are available on your PS4 console.

In fact, there are some smaller streaming apps available on your PS4 as well that may be worth checking out.

PS4s are also better for gaming, music, and online browsing options as they allow full internet access.

Smart TVs are unnecessary for PS4 owners because they may already have access to the apps that a smart TV can offer.

However, there are some ways that a smart TV can still be beneficial if you have a PS4, as discussed in the next section.

Are There Any Benefits of Having a PS4 and a Smart TV?

Some benefits to having both a smart TV and a PS4 are easy accessibility, data space-saving, and easy access in different rooms. So, while it isn’t necessary to have both, it can be beneficial depending on your needs.

Your Favorite Apps Are Accessible Via Your TV

Smart TVs allow you to access all your favorite apps right on your TV.

It often means that speaking a command into your remote control can bring up your favorite show on Netflix without much effort — something a PS4 can’t offer.

With any TV, your PS4 will be accessible via different input.

That means accessing your PS4 requires a change in input and powering it on.

It’s not difficult.

Furthermore, gamers are quite used to this series of events.

But there’s no denying that it’s faster and easier to access your streaming apps by just speaking into your remote.

If the ease of commanding your remote to load your favorite streaming service isn’t enough of a benefit to consider buying a smart TV, then let’s discuss some other reasons.

You Can Save Some Space in Your PS4

Another reason that a PS4 owner may want to invest in a smart TV is that streaming services take up space on your PS4.

PS4 data space is not unlimited.

Sure, there are ways to add more space with extra gigabytes, but there are still limits to how many things you can have downloaded on it.

If space on your PS4 is an issue, then a smart TV can be a helpful alternative.

All those streaming services and apps that we use regularly take up room on our PS4 that could be used for another game or a much-needed update.

So, it’s worth considering adding a smart TV to help alleviate some of those space issues.

For some, this may not be an issue worth investing in a smart TV for, but many gamers struggle with space on their device.

It may not be necessary, but it can certainly be helpful.

You Can Use Your PS4 and Smart TV in Different Rooms

One of the best ways to use a smart TV and a PS4 is to allow streaming in different rooms.

Because there are so many apps that smart TVs and PS4s share, it would be a great idea to use these devices in separate rooms.

Consider using your PS4 as a smart TV alternative in another room.

For example, if you have a PS4 set up in the living room, then consider a smart TV for the bedroom.

Then you can have full access to your streaming apps in both rooms.

If you choose this option for having both, then you can save money by not needing a different type of streaming device in your bedroom or whichever alternate room you choose.

While there isn’t much of a need for a smart TV and a PS4 in the same room, there’s no denying that they can be beneficial when separated.

So, consider this if you want to buy both.

Final Thoughts

A smart TV is not going to be beneficial if you already have a PS4 because they share so many capabilities.

It is not worth the investment to have a smart TV in the same room as a PS4 unless you don’t want to have to turn on your PS4 and change inputs or if space is an issue.

While you can get both, there is no need. Just remember that a PS4 and a smart TV will be a lot more useful to you in different rooms.
