How To Turn Off Your Alexa From Another Room (5 cool tricks)

How To Turn Off Your Alexa From Another Room

Assistants like Alexa are extremely convenient and make your life simpler.

It can be easy to forget that you need to turn off your assistant when you’re not using it.

So, what do you do when you’ve left the room and forgotten to turn off Alexa?

Here are a few ways you can turn off your Alexa from another room:

  1. Install the Alexa app on your phone.
  2. Try out the Reverb app.
  3. Invest in an Amazon remote control.
  4. Add a second Echo device to your home.
  5. Plug Alexa into a smart outlet.

Want to be able to turn off Alexa from any room, without moving a muscle?

Read on for more information about each of the above-mentioned apps and devices that can help you achieve just that!

1. Install the Alexa App on Your Phone

Alexa can be controlled through an app that solely relies on your voice.

The Amazon Alexa app is available on the App Store for iPhones and the Play store for Androids.

Once you download and set up the app, it allows you to control your Alexa remotely!

Before you can control Alexa using your smartphone, there is a set-up process that you will need to complete:

  1. Open the app
  2. Connect Alexa to Bluetooth
  3. Sign In to your Amazon account
  4. Select the user
  5. Create a voice profile
  6. Add your Echo to “devices” and follow the set-up prompts

Once you’ve set up your app, you can use your voice to control your Alexa from any room.

To do this, simply tap on the Alexa icon, or turn it on hands-free to make it even easier.

Speak loudly and into the speaker of your phone; precisely like you would to an Echo.

Watch as your Alexa does what you need it to!

2. Try Out the Reverb App

If you’re on an iPad or other tablet device, you can try the Reverb App!

It does work on smartphones as well, but in my opinion, the Amazon Alexa app is more straightforward.

The Reverb App lets you connect with Alexa from anywhere.

Whether you are in the next room or in another country, you can easily log in and connect with your Alexa device.

To use the Reverb App, you will need to:

  1. Download the Reverb App
  2. Sign in to your Amazon account
  3. Find the blue Alexa Ring icon
  4. Click or press the Alexa Ring
  5. Give a Command

The Reverb app takes over the function of multiple Amazon Echo devices.

The app is available on your phone, tablet, or a web browser- giving you the ability to remotely access your Alexa device and turn it off from virtually anywhere.

Reverb is a great way to control your Alexa device, but it should be noted that because of Amazon’s music service restrictions, this app does not have the ability to control the music that Alexa plays.

3. Invest in an Amazon Remote Control

Suppose your phone is full of apps and you just want something more straightforward.

In that case, I have the perfect solution for you; the Amazon Alexa Voice Remote Control.

This remote is a great option for turning off your Alexa when the room is too noisy or you’re too far away.

It has a convenient microphone feature that allows you to send commands to your Alexa device quickly and efficiently.

The main problem with the remote is accessibility.

It’s great to be able to reach over and use the remote to shut down Alexa, but when has a remote control ever been within reach?

Unless you have a remote in every room, it might not be the most helpful tool for this scenario.

4. Add a Second Echo Device to Your Home

If you have more than one Echo device in your home, you can use any one of them to turn off your Alexa.

Echo devices communicate with each other very well and can even act as a sort of “intercom system” in your home.

This simple and helpful video gives us a look into how you can control your Alexa with another Echo device in your home:

Adding a second device is a good place to start, but you can actually link up as many Echo devices in your home as you wish!

What’s more, you can control more than just the on/off function with these devices.

Some of the benefits of having multiple Echo devices in your home are:

  • Create a home theater experience.
  • Play music in multiple rooms.
  • Share a message with someone at home by “dropping in” on all devices.
  • Set reminders for the whole household.

5. Plug Alexa Into a Smart Outlet

Using a smart outlet may be the simplest option for turning off Alexa from another room.

Barring unplugging your Alexa, a smart outlet is an easy and quick way to turn off the device from any room in your home.

A smart outlet is a bulky adaptor that allows you to control the power supply for plugged-in devices.

It essentially turns your entire home into a smart home! If you want to turn Alexa off and you’re not within voice command range,  just cut off the power using an app on your phone, and your problem is solved!

Because you can monitor the smart outlets through an app on your smartphone, you can remotely turn off power to your Alexa device whether you’re in the next room or in a different city.

If you choose to cut the power in order to turn off Alexa, keep in mind that you are also cutting off the power to anything else plugged into your smart outlet.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt that Alexa is a convenient device.

So convenient, in fact, that we get used to the easy voice commands and can get frustrated when we lose access to it in another room.

By using the tools and devices above, you can solve your distance issues and turn Alexa off from any room!
