Is Your Ring Chime Not Working After Power Outage? (Easy Fixes)

Ring Chime Not Working After Power Outage

A Ring Chime is a great tool to ensure you can hear your Ring Doorbell echo throughout your home.

It’s especially convenient for larger homes and Ring Doorbell owners that don’t always have their phones close by.

If your Ring Chime has stopped working, we have some ways to fix it.

Your Ring Chime may stop working after a power outage because of a power surge, Wifi connectivity issues, or an incorrect wifi password. Easy fixes include resetting your router, checking the Ring app, ensuring the Chime receives power, trying a different outlet, and contacting customer support.

Let’s take a closer look at these possible issues to help you get your Ring Chime working again.

Why Your Ring Chime Isn’t Working After a Power Outage

We all love the ease of having devices connect through our home Wifi, and Ring Chime does just that.

However, that does mean that power outages can affect connectivity.

If you notice that your Ring Chime isn’t alerting you when someone is at the door, then let’s take a look at some reasons that may happen.

Power Surge

A power surge happens when the electricity that comes through your outlets is interrupted and quickly returned.

During a power surge, your outlet will have too much electricity running through it and can cause issues with anything plugged into it.

In fact, fires and affected electronics are common outcomes when a power surge occurs.

Wifi Connectivity Issues

A power outage can cause issues with your Wifi connection.

Whether it causes issues with your router or just interrupts the connection to your Ring Chime, it’s common for Wifi to be the culprit of Ring Chime problems.

Your Ring Chime device won’t work if it’s not connected to Wifi.

So, it’s vital to ensure that your Wifi is working no matter what the issue is that’s causing it.

We’ll go over some possible fixes for common Wifi issues a little later.

Wifi Password Has Been Updated

We’ve all had to update our Wifi password from time to time, whether it’s because we changed companies or suspect our neighbors are hopping onto our network.

This can be a common but sometimes forgotten issue with connecting to our devices.

If you’ve updated your password recently, then you’ll need to reconnect to your devices that use it, and Ring devices all run off of a Wifi connection.

So, don’t forget to keep all your devices up to date with any Wifi password changes.

5 Easy Fixes for Ring Chime Not Working

No matter what caused your Ring Chime to stop working, there are plenty of ways to get it up and to run again. So, let’s get started.

1. Reset Your Wifi Router

If you notice that your Ring Chime isn’t working after a power outage, the first step should be to check the Wifi router because it helps connect to all your Ring devices.

Without a home Wifi network, your Ring device won’t be able to connect with each other or your other smart devices.

So, reset your Wifi router first by completely unplugging it for at least a minute and plugging it back in.

This will ensure that you have a stable Wifi connection to work with to get your Ring Chime back up and running.

2. Check the Ring App

If resetting your router didn’t get the job done, you’ll want to check your Ring app.

This app will allow you to see which of your Ring devices are connected and working.

Ensure that your Ring Chime is still active and listed on the app.

If it isn’t, then you’ll need to reconnect the device to ensure it works with your Ring Doorbell.

Select the “Set Up A Device” option to get started, and the app will request that you scan the barcode on the device you want to pair.

It’ll take you through the initial process that you went through when you first brought the Ring Chime home.

So, set up the name of your device as you did before and get it back up and running.

3. Check the Blue Light on Your Ring Chime

If your Ring Chime is receiving power, the logo on the device’s front will glow blue.

So, the best way to check if your outlet is working and providing power to your device is to check for that blue light.

If you don’t see the blue light, then you know there’s an issue with the Chime receiving power.

If the blue light isn’t on, then your device isn’t receiving power.

This could mean that there’s an issue with the device itself or the outlet it is plugged into.

We’ll get to outlet issues next, but if the light isn’t on, then try unplugging the device.

Once you plug it back in, the device should restart, and the blue light will appear.

If not, then it may be an issue with the outlet itself.

4. Try a Different Outlet

If there’s no blue light on your device indicating it’s receiving power and you’ve tried restarting it, then you may need to try another outlet in your home.

If you do this and notice that the blue light comes on, then there’s an issue with your outlet, not the device.

To fully diagnose the problem, try plugging another device into the outlet.

If the Chime and other devices don’t work in that specific outlet, then you may have blown a fuse.

This can happen with power outages and power surges as well.

This can usually be fixed by resetting the outlet at the breaker.

5. Contact Customer Support if All Else Fails

If your Chime hasn’t responded to any of these fixes, then it’s time to contact customer support.

You can do this easily here.

This support website gives you the correct phone number to call for help based on your location, and it allows you to chat with online support if you aren’t able to call.

So, if all else fails, reach out to support for further assistance.

Final Thoughts

Ring Chimes are a great way to alert you of someone at the door no matter where you are in the house.

Because it works on your Wifi network, the Chime device requires a constant internet connection to work properly. If you’re having issues, try out these fixes to get your Chime back up and running in no time.
