Can You Use WhatsApp on Google Nest Hub

Google Nest Hub is an excellent device for many reasons; it’s an assistant, a visual display, and a smart home control center.

However, most Google Nest users want to use WhatsApp on the device due to the app’s popularity in messaging and making calls.

And you may be wondering if you can use WhatsApp on Google Nest Hub?

You can use WhatsApp on Google Nest Hub to send messages and make audio and video calls. Through Google Assistant, Google Nest can open your phone’s WhatsApp and send a text to your preferred contact. It can also make WhatsApp voice and video calls on your behalf.

In the rest of this article, I’ll take you through how to use WhatsApp on Google Nest Hub.

I’ll also discuss other smart home services you can get using Google Nest Hub. So if that’s interesting to you, definitely stick around!

How To Use WhatsApp on Google Nest Hub

WhatsApp was the first non-Google service to be added to Google Nest Hub.

The integration was first announced in early 2019 and made available to users later that year.

To use WhatsApp on Google Nest Hub, you need to have the latest version of the app installed on your phone and be signed into your account.

You also need to have a WhatsApp account linked to your Google account.

Once you have the latest WhatsApp version and are signed in, open Google Assistant and proceed to set up WhatsApp as one of your communication apps on Nest Hub.

Here is the procedure to set up WhatsApp on Nest Hub:

  • Launch the Google Home app.
  • Navigate to “Settings.”
  • Click on “Services.”
  • Navigate to “Communication.”
  • Select “Video & Voice Apps.”
  • Tap on “WhatsApp” and follow the setup process.

WhatsApp Features You Can Use on Google Nest Hub

Once you have WhatsApp set up on your Google Nest Hub, there are several things you can do with the app. Here are some of the features you can use:

Send Messages

You can send WhatsApp messages using your voice.

However, you must press the button to speak to your Google Assistant and put on your headphones.

To send a WhatsApp message, say, “Hey Google, send a WhatsApp message to (contact name).

The assistant will then ask you what you want to say in the message.

You should dictate the message, then say, “Send” when done.

An excellent example, let’s assume Conrad is one of your WhatsApp contacts, and you want to send him a message.

Here is what you’ll dictate, “Send Conrad a WhatsApp message saying, Are we still meeting in town tomorrow?

When done dictating, your Google Assistant will replay the message to confirm if it got it correctly.

If the statement is incorrect, you can change it by saying, “Change.” Otherwise, say “Send” to send the message.

Start a Video Call

A WhatsApp video call lets you see the person you’re speaking to on the Nest Hub’s screen.

However, unlike making a video call with a smartphone, your contact won’t see you if your Nest Hub version lacks a camera.

Only Google Nest Hub Max and Google Assistant Smart Display have cameras.

Thus, your contact won’t see you in the video call if you use the original Google Nest Hub or the 2021 Nest Hub version.

To start a WhatsApp video call, put on your headphones and press the button to talk to Google Assistant.

Once ready, say, “Start a WhatsApp video call to (contact name).”

An example is, “Start a WhatsApp video call to Elizabeth.”

If you have more than one Elizabeth in your WhatsApp contacts, your Google Assistant will ask you to specify which one.

You can either repeat the name or select it from a list of contacts displayed.

After that, the video call will connect, and you’ll see your contact on the screen.

Start a WhatsApp Audio Call

The difference between a WhatsApp video call and an audio call is that you can’t see the person you’re speaking to on an audio call.

To start a WhatsApp audio call, put on your headphones and press the button to talk to Google Assistant.

Once ready, say, “Start a WhatsApp audio call to (contact name).”

An example is, “Start a WhatsApp audio call to Conrad.”

The Google Assistant on your Nest Hub will automatically start the call if you have only one contact named Conrad.

Otherwise, it will ask you to clarify the specific contact you want to call.

Other Smart Home Services on Google Nest Hub

Apart from communication, you can use Google Nest Hub in the following ways:

Google also has a “routines” feature that allows you to automate some of the above tasks.

For example, you can create a bedtime routine that dims the lights and plays soothing music as you sleep.

Or, you can create a wake-up routine that gradually increases the light in your bedroom and starts playing your favorite morning show.

Routines are an excellent way to automate some of the tasks you do every day.
